Olathe Pediatric Cancer Center & Maggie Center

Integrated Design Studio (ARCH 609) · University of Kansas · Spring 2026

The Olathe Pediatric Cancer Center & Maggie Center is a pediatric outpatient oncology facility designed to support both advanced clinical treatment and holistic healing. Developed in ARCH 609 Integrated Design Studio at the University of Kansas, the project combines infusion therapy, imaging, laboratory services, counseling, and family-centered support spaces within a restorative landscape environment.

The design emphasizes healthcare workflow efficiency, environmental performance, and emotional wellbeing through daylighting, biophilic strategies, therapeutic courtyards, immersive pediatric environments, and a dedicated Maggie Center focused on social and emotional support.

Organized around a central healing courtyard, the project explores how healthcare architecture can reduce stress, support family presence, improve staff wellbeing, and create meaningful connections between treatment, nature, and community.
